Throttle & Iron: Guest Tech Prep

🔧 Guest Tech Prep Checklist

Before joining us on the Throttle & Iron podcast, please take a few minutes to check off the items below. This helps make sure your video, audio, and experience are top-notch.

📅 When & how long: We record live on Tuesday evenings (8 PM EST) — your exact date is confirmed when you book. Plan for about 60–90 minutes, and please hop on 10–15 minutes early so we can run a quick sound and video check together.

📝 New guest? First, make sure you’ve submitted your guest application & release form. Then run through the checklist below.

🎥 We use Ecamm Live for interviews. This checklist helps avoid tech issues like choppy video or echo.

✅ Internet Connection

  • I’m using wired internet (Ethernet) or sitting near a strong Wi-Fi signal.
  • I’ve asked others in the house to pause streaming/gaming while I’m on the show.
  • I ran a speed test (speedtest.net):
    • Upload speed is 5 Mbps+
    • Ping is under 50 ms

✅ Browser & Software

  • I’m using Google Chrome (recommended for Ecamm Interview Mode).
  • All other video apps (Zoom, OBS, Teams, etc.) are fully closed.
  • I’ve disabled any ad-blockers or VPNs that could interfere.

✅ Device & Power

  • I restarted my computer before joining.
  • My device is plugged into power (not running on battery).
  • I closed all unnecessary programs and tabs.

✅ Camera & Mic Setup

  • I’m using a USB or external webcam for the best video quality.
⚠️ Built-in laptop webcams may cause choppy or grainy video — especially in low light.
  • I’m well-lit from the front (no backlighting or dark rooms).
  • I’m using wired earbuds or a headset to avoid echo or Bluetooth lag.
